Janelle Behm

Mommy and me and Tiny tots daytime program

Janelle Behm began dancing at the age of 3 at the Sam Smith School of Dance in upstate New York. At the age of 10 she moved to Fredericksburg where she continued training in tap, jazz, ballet, modern, hip hop and contemporary at Inspire Dance. Janelle became a teacher assistant for the younger classes where she learned the format of a class, helped students when needed, and assisted with their dance in the annual recital. In 2014, Janelle graduated Orange County High School a semester early and started college at Germanna Community College. While she was still a student at Inspire Dance, she also began training to become a teacher the following summer. Since that summer, Janelle has been teaching all ages various genres including jazz, tap, and contemporary along with choreographing company and competition numbers. She currently attends the University of Mary Washington where she is apart of the Performing Arts Club and will be graduating in the spring of 2018 with a degree in Communications and Digital Studies. Janelle hopes that she can teach and encourage students to love the art of dance just as much as her teachers did for her.

Ashley Slemp

Darby’s Dancers

Ashley began dancing when she was 4 years old in Southwest Virginia. She continued dancing everywhere she went from boarding school in Richmond to college in SC where she earned her Minor in Dance. She even began teaching dance while in Okinawa, Japan. Today, she loves to learn the history as well as the anatomy behind the movement. Always a student of all forms of dance, she hopes to inspire the same kind of joy in the dancers in Fredericksburg.

In the summer of 2015 she was introduced to Darby’s Dancers and knew immediately she wanted to be a part of a program that made all children feel like a STAR. Not much melts her heart more than watching our Darbys move across the floor with a giant smile or hearing the little ones giggle as they lay on the floor being mermaids. She feels blessed to be a part of an organization that affords her the opportunity to share her passion.
